Energy rating D: what is it and how do we interpret it?

Obtaining energy rating D is increasingly affordable and offers a wide variety of advantages for those who opt for it. Thanks to constant urban renewal plans and the promotion of energy efficiency in Spain, achieving it will only require a couple of small changes to the home and will not involve major structural modifications.

Is it difficult to obtain energy rating D?

The Spanish average is at energy rating E, which implies some energy savings, but not the ideal amount given the energy efficiency plans established in recent years. Therefore, we must look for ways to reduce our consumption and, consequently, the carbon footprint we leave on the environment.

If we do the calculation, from E to D is only a small but significant step that can greatly influence the monthly expenditure on electricity and energy. According to Idealista, the average expenditure would be between €57 and €60/month.

Therefore, if you are at this point and want to contribute to environmental care, we remind you that improving your building’s efficiency is not that complicated if you focus on obtaining rating D.

To do this, you should check your home’s thermal insulation and install double-glazed windows to ensure heat is conserved and a stable average temperature is established in the home. Other measures you can take include purchasing appliances with maximum energy efficiency.

At Inditer, for example, we install industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems to help companies reduce their energy consumption and thus decrease their carbon footprint.

What is the best energy rating?

According to the energy efficiency scale, the best rating would be A. However, only 12% of Spanish homes have it, and it is a more long-term goal for those in the lowest brackets such as F, G, or E.

The other more affordable and easier-to-obtain classifications are D or C, depending on how much you want to invest and the original state of the property.

For these reasons, we encourage you to commit to energy efficiency and obtain rating D for your home or business. This way, you will not only save on your monthly electricity bill, but you will also have access to the subsidies established in Royal Decree 233/2013.
