What is the best energy rating?
The Energy Certificate became a reality for all Spanish homes from 2013, when it became mandatory to obtain. Since then, many questions have arisen about what it is and how it can be obtained.
Of course, achieving an A rating seems almost impossible, as it requires virtually zero energy consumption. This is very difficult to achieve considering that most Spanish homes were built 50 years ago.
Despite this, the European Union has set itself the goal of increasing the number of buildings with this rating in the coming years, while also reducing overall energy consumption to reduce our impact on the environment.
Therefore, in terms of energy efficiency, an A energy rating would be optimal. However, as we have said, this is unattainable for the vast majority of homes. The next most affordable step will therefore be an E rating, or even D or C for those who want better results.
What does energy rating C mean?
A C rating is two steps away from achieving zero energy consumption. This implies a significant reduction in monthly electricity costs, but it will also require a major upfront investment, as substantial energy savings are needed.
This rating consumes around 25% less than the Spanish average, which is in class E. Although no minimum rating is required, we should look for measures to achieve maximum efficiency.
At this level, not only are A+ appliances required, but there must also be excellent insulation, as well as solar panels.

How can you find out the energy rating?
Nowadays, it is necessary to know the energy efficiency of a home, and we can find this out thanks to the energy label. On it, you will find 7 different ratings, with A being the highest and G the lowest.
This indicates the greater or lesser efficiency of a building, and it applies to both private and industrial use. Many factors influence the determination of their energy efficiency, such as floor area, CO₂ emissions under normal conditions, or the climate zone in which it is located.
